As an artist in residence for gallery and production studio This Is Network, I was asked to create a custom vinyl doll for the "Graphic Contents" Qee show. The show opened in Los Angeles in mid-October 2006 at Mixi-Bang. I decided to have the egg tell the story of a turtle embryo, patiently waiting to finish its hatch and passing the time with a light read. Inspired by old cartoons where birds or dinosaurs performed day-to-day routines while only partially hatched, I decided to reveal what was inside the figure versus just transforming the outside. After spray painting an eggshell texture for the base coat of the egg, I hand-painted the figure's arms and legs and used a sticker of the turtle figure to add more texture. Additional spray paint layers were performed after each step, and the final touch came with a laser-printed book placed in the embryo's hands.
